Stoner Girl Interview with The Outer Vibe

If you are into indie-pop, or surf-disco, you’ll dig this dope five-piece band out of Nashville, known as The Outer VibeFull Circle (released June 2015) was their first full-length album and now they’re back with the single “Sweet to the Rind.” You can listen to this track at the following link:

I had the honor of interviewing The Outer Vibe, check out our chat below!

OG: So, what have you been up to lately?

In October, we had an Exodus and relocated our entire band HQ and crew to Nashville, TN from Grand Rapids, MI. We signed a publishing deal with Catch This Music and are in the process of releasing some new singles.

OG: General inspirations for how you live your lives?

Noah: Be good at what you do and don’t be a dick.

OG: How much time per day do you all spend on music?

It’s a life obsession. We tried doing the math and it was hard for us to think of times we aren’t spending on music. We do everything together … we live together (9 people in 1 house) so even when we are making dinner together, we are still listening to music or talking about song ideas. It never stops.

OG: Can you tell us about your artistic process please. Pot? Patting cats? Pacing?

Lisa: All of the above. Seriously though. Except we have a Papillon, not a cat.

Sean: We go to space and eventually find our way back home.

Noah: We go off on tangents, cross the line, and take ideas way too far, even if they’re bad ideas. It’s pretty fun. We also jam a lot.

OG: Any advice for someone who would like to do something creative for a living?

Nick: It’s gonna take longer than you think. And if it doesn’t, it might be over sooner than you want. If you want to get noticed right now, you’ll soon be forgotten. If you want to never be forgotten, you will have to be patient because it will be a slow process.

Everyone: Collaborate a lot with other artists. Find other people who are like you, even if they’re not doing exactly what you’re doing. Inspire each other.

Lisa: Someone else is always better than you, but it doesn’t mean they’re going to get anywhere. If you love what you do, then keep practicing a lot and stick to it. Don’t give up.

OG: How do you feel about Cannabis?

We are fans. It’s been a fun part of what we do together and gives new perspective we might not otherwise see.

Nick: It’s also been a fun way to meet peaceful, friendly people.

OG: How do you feel about edibles?

Edibles are a spaceship to space. They’re also a good companion for long car rides.

OG: What do you think would happen if an elderly woman fed a tray of hash brownies to a pack of squirrels?

Sean: She would have to have a lot more snacks on hand.

Nick: She should also have some banjos, acoustic guitars, and mandolins to hand the squirrels.

Noah: She could then train them to grow cannabis in our green house.

OG: How much coffee is too much coffee?

Wonder: Depends on how much weed you smoke because if you smoke enough weed there is no amount of coffee that is too much.

OG: What songs come to mind when you think about drugs?

Nick: The Beatles – I am the Walrus

Wonder: Suzuki by Tosca

OG: What’s a groupie?

To us, a groupie is someone who follows the band, is regularly present at shows, and is actively involved in whatever the band is up to. Someone who gets a notification on Spotify that says “you’re in the top 1% of listeners of this band.”

OG: How do you feel about Feminism?

Lisa: Feminism is not what people actually think it is. It’s a widely misunderstood concept.

Nick: Definition of feminism: “the advocacy of women’s rights on the basis of the equality of the sexes.” So that being said … count us in.

OG: What do you think the secrets to happiness are?

Noah: It’s about the simple things like having good friends, a place to live, being accepted for who you are … and weed is a +1 at the end of the day.

OG: When do you think humans should be really brave?

Sean: When running topless down the street.

OG: How important are beauty, money and fashion?

Noah: Beauty is something you create in your life. It’s not a word that describes how someone looks, but true beauty is something you have to find for yourself. And money? We’ll let ya know what we think of it when we find some.

Lisa: Fashion is fun. It’s a hobby of mine. As a band, fashion is an avenue for expression that’s similar to music.

OG: Anyone you’d love to work on a project with?

Anderson.Paak. Dave Grohl. David Kahne. Pat Pattison. Damon Albarn. Dave Bird, a.k.a. Little Dickie. Ben Folds. Snoop Dogg. Danger Mouse. Mark Ronson. Justice. Nardwaar. Randy Newman. Dolly Parton. Jeff Lynn from ELO. Definitely not Paul McCartney. Just kidding. So yeah, we have big dreams.

OG: Women you think are amazing?

Lisa: Annie Clark. Annie Lennox. People named Annie, apparently.

Wonder: Carol K. and Karen O.

OG: What advice would you give to your 19-year-old self?

Wonder: Smoke more weed.

Lisa: Drugs are not bad. Seriously though, that’s what I’d tell myself. Don’t be so judgmental, oh wait I’m still working on that. Mom and Dad mean well but aren’t always right. Escape from your hometown, at least for awhile if not forever, and experience new places.

Sean: Call The White Stripes and make garage rock together, “Back To The Future” style.

OG: How many cats are too many cats, for one human to live with?

Lisa: Whatever the point is when your house starts to smell like litter box.

Sean: When you have more than one bald cat.

OG: Where do you think Stoner Heaven is?

Islamorada in the Florida Keys. Grand Junction because they have so much weed they have to give it away.

OG: Where should stoners visit in your city?

They should visit our house. Hit us up. And also Mas Tacos Por Favor.

OG: What do you want in return for dedicating your lives to music?

Nick: Good music and a community of people that appreciate it and want to enjoy it with us. Somewhat like those old Renaissance paintings you see of a guy dressed like a jester, singing and playing for a bunch of people in a tavern and everyone is having a good time.

OG: What’s next for you?

Writing songs endlessly. Touring North America. Maybe a Mars tour in 2025. That kind of stuff.

Haha. You cats rock! Thanks so much for your time everyone! Stay dope!!
