The Stoner Girl’s Guide to Joshua Boulet

“Bizarre Life” – http://www.joshuaboulet.com

I met Joshua Boulet many moons ago at the Treating Yourself Expo in Toronto, Ontario. I commissioned him to do an illustration of my cat and I — have been a huge fan ever since.

I’m still in the pencil-under stage of my art life so I find watching Joshua draw totally magical. There are lots of videos online of him live drawing and I LOVE them. Like this one, for example:

Just had the honor of interviewing Boulet. I highly recommend checking out our chat below and following him on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/boulet420/

*What advice would you give to your 19-year-old self?*

You’re gonna make it to 30. So cut all that bad shit out now! Also Don’t
Panic, and start smoking hash now- you’re gonna love it.

*What do you think would happen if a 90-year-old woman accidentally fed a pan of hash brownies to a pack of squirrels?*

Hilarity would no doubt ensue, but first I would ask why accidentally? Was
the old lady trying to feed them regular brownies? Do squirrels even like
brownies? Are these Canadian Squirrels? How old is this lady, and what was
she doing with a bunch of pot brownies? Can I have one?

*How do you feel about cats? And how many cats do you think are too many cats for one woman to own?*

I love cats, but that’s just because the toxoplasma parasite has infected
my brain. They are our cute, fuzzy, overlords. We must pet their tummies
and only feed them the finest canned pineapple food. Onya Ganja, prepare
for world cat domination. So how many cats are too many cats? Anything
over 50 cats would be WAY too many cats…my opinion, but what do I know?
Whatever makes you happy (see question #5).

*How much weed is too much weed?*

No such thing. Next question.

*How much coffee is too much coffee?*

For me. Anything over 1 cup would be too much. I managed to avoid the
coffee bean as a vice, although I’ve had a few damn good cups that make me
want to reconsider. Let’s say tea or hot chocolate for those cold nights.
…but what about waking up in the morning? Well, hello Mary Jane. Have I
said I loved you today?

*Anything you love watching on Netflix?*

I find I spend more time trying to find something to watch on Netflix than
I do actually watching something on Netflix. I love a good sci-fi story.
Although when are people gonna learn to STOP investigating Distress
Signals from derelict starships that have been missing for hundreds of
years or just came back from the voids of hell! Sheesh! Usually I’ll put
Netflix on in the background while I draw. Documentaries work best for
that. Sometimes the movie is really good and I find myself watching more
than drawing. Oh yeah, plus–anything Canadian.

*What helps you get in the creative mood?*

Deadlines. And weed. Really it doesn’t take much to put me in the creative
mood since I tend to hang around that part of town, but this means a night
hanging out with friends can be spent in my head or a sketchbook.

*What do you think is the most valuable way to spend your time?*

Answering more of these questions. So send me some more! Really whatever
makes you happy. I don’t want to try and pretend I’m dropping knowledge or
anything but we have a limited amount of time to enjoy this paradise we
live in. As adults it seems we easily forget that, with life’s daily
stresses. For me improving my drawing skills is the most valuable way to
spend my time. Art is also good. Anything creative–editing a traveling
video I made, working a deadline for a magazine, or just smoking this phat
bowl of 6 star hash. *Cough cough.*  Uh, man. What was the question?

*What’s next for you?*

Smoke some more of this hash. Then maybe I’ll get some lunch. Eventually
tomorrow will be here. I suppose I’ll eat something again then, and smoke
just as much. Maybe I’ll conquer the world after that… hmmmm… with art…
with weed and art… and cats… 1 cat.

Hahahahahaha. Thanks for your time Joshua and thank you for being super dope! See you in Canada again someday, I hope.

Toke it easy,

OG
