Ty Dubcomm is one of Toronto’s most stoned and eligible bachelors … and he likes cats!! 😉 I highly recommend checking out my dope interview with him below and finding him on Instagram — @dabbaratus. (Note his cat likes my catnip.)
OG: So, what have you been up to lately?
TD: Just finished another really great tattoo session with my artist, I’ve dedicated both sleeves to his work so we’re plugging away bit by bit. Aside from that, I think somewhere nearing 4 or 5 million things. I’m curator and web designer for Boroheads, Toronto’s premier functional glass art gallery. I work as an Operations Consultant in the cannabis industry and just helped 416 Medicinal Health Center open their doors. I have a dabber company that is a lot of fun to work on in my rare free time. I created dab.ninja because someone had too… And I’m about to launch a new tattoo-healing salve company. I’m forgetting things too. I like to stay busy. Thats all my shameless plugs too. Suck it, lazy stoner stereotype.
OG: General inspirations for how you live your life?
TD: Always take the high road. Pain is temporary so ignore it. Listen twice. Work harder. Eat less Burger King?
OG: How much time per day do you spend on cannabis related activities?
TD: It will be easier to note the time I’m not interacting with cannabis in some way. I sleep about 6 hours a night, plus a couple little naps on the couch if I’m lucky, but my day starts and ends with high-dose cannabinoids. I don’t shy away from my love for it, it has saved my life over and over again.
OG: Can you please tell me everything about your feline?
TM: I have 2. Brother and sister. Steve and Wayne. They hate each other, and show very apparent yet opposing characteristics. Steve is super chill and has a session on the couch with me at least once a day, while Wayne is really high strung and sorta kinda anti-social. I love ’em and they’re amazingly entertaining company. For being little furry jerks.
OG: Describe your dream girl?
TD: I have been struggling with this question for many, many reasons. I have no idea how to answer. I’m looking for her though…
OG: Any advice for someone who would like to do something cannabis related for a living?
TD: Be reliable and loyal. With this industry so rooted in grey and black market practice, your word is only as good as your action. Much of the community polices itself… So not fucking up is crucial. Seriously don’t fuck up.
Also, this is just the surly shop manager in me, but don’t stroll in to a place stinking of roaches expecting an on-the-spot hire just because you like to get baked a little more than your friends. That Spicoli shit is bad for business and gets on my nerves. Ha #surlybongsalesman
OG: Favourite strains?
TD: UBC Purple Chemo, Afghani Bullrider, Indica dominant Green Crack, and I still have a thing for the Freeze. Co2 derivatives have been a recent favourite as well… I can’t remember the last time I bought a bag of flowers to smoke though… 100% vaporized concentrates for my cannabinoid intake for the past couple of years, and I’m loving it!
OG: How do you feel about edibles?
TD: They don’t work on me! I love them, but they’re a bit of waste unless I eat a LOT and I’m just after a solid night’s sleep. I wish they did more, I have a huge sweet tooth.
OG: How much coffee is too much coffee?
TD: Any coffee! I don’t drink it, or really enjoy the taste. If I need caffeine I go for some kind of tea. probably iced. and lemony.
OG: How many dabs are too many dabs?
TD: I’ll let you know when I wake up from my nap! #DTFO
OG: What song comes to mind when you think about drugs?
TD: Not a specific song really, but a time-period. I spent many years as a very active drum’n’bass DJ in Toronto and many of my sets were geared towards the high kids still raving at 3am. Check out this link for a bunch of stuff I did or was involved with!
OG: What songs never fail to make you dance?
TD: Drum’n’Bass from about 1997 to 2002 is the only music that has ever moved me to actually dance. And we’re talking about 15 years ago. It won’t be easy to catch me dancing at this point in my life. Does cardio count? I love listening to my old sets while working out…
OG: How do you feel about Feminism?
TD: I try to treat everyone the same. Doesn’t matter what we call it.
OG: What do you think the secrets to happiness are?
OG: When do you think humans should be really brave?
TD: After the birth of true Artificial Intelligence. Its going to be pretty fucked up for the human race to exist when we’re not at the top of the pile anymore. I may have watched the Terminator movies too many times…
OG: How important are beauty, money and fashion?
TD: Hard not to channel a little Kanye for this one. I think they’re all important in their own right. There are certainly more important things in this life, but I love women and art, being able to support myself financially, and wearing nice fitted hats the whole time.
OG: Anyone you’d love to work on a project with?
TD: I unno. I kind of just want someone to NOT work with at this point.
OG: Women you think are amazing?
TD: My mom is the toughest, bravest, most real person I know. She survived breast cancer while also surviving my growing up, which was notably difficult. I was awful, from a parent’s perspective. She is the reason I have such a strong sense of loyalty and understand whats right or wrong. I’m very proud and feel immensely lucky to have her as such an influential figure in my life. Hi Mom!
OG: What advice would you give to your 19-year-old self?
TD: Wow. Just after turning 20 I incurred a life-changing spinal injury. Maybe I would recommend a different path, one leading away from the injury… I’m confident that 19 year old me and 32 year old me wouldn’t get along very well though. I’ve always had a bit of an issue with authority and people telling me what to do… Now you’re throwing some time travel paradoxical stuff into the mix… I need a dab…
OG: How many cats are too many cats, for one human to live with?
TD: Who am I to judge? I won’t come in your house if it smells like cat piss or it ruins my clothes… But I have 2 and wouldn’t want more. I really want a dog, but will have to move to a bigger place first. All in time.
OG: Where do you think Stoner Heaven is?
Anywhere with easy access to LEGAL recreational cannabis and derivatives? Being able to indulge those receptors without fear of prosecution is a cool concept…
For me, on my couch with my cat, a beautiful piece of glass, my D-NAIL, some high quality concentrates, fresh fruit juice, and something funny on the TV… Thats a pretty happy place.
OG: Where should stoners visit in your city?
Boroheads Glass Gallery obviously. Chinatown & Kensington Market. There are a few really nice vapor lounges around too, especially if you’re just visiting they’re a cool thing to see. Sneaker shops, Yonge St., Queen W., the Danforth… I still haven’t been to the aquarium yet, definitely need to check that place out… I love that Toronto is my home.
OG: What do you want in return for dedicating your life to cannabis?
TD: Never thought of asking for more than it already gives me… Whats on deck?!
I guess I hope that I can retire comfortably and with my available health after all this work. I hope to continue meeting amazing people, tasting amazing flavours, enjoying good feelings, appreciating beautiful art, learning new information, laughing, eating, sleeping, and everything else we were designed to do as human beings. I want balance.
OG: What’s next for you?
TD: Another tattoo appointment! We have hours and hours and hours of work to do…
Thanks so much for your time Ty!
